Individual
Psychotherapy

Individual psychotherapy includes meeting with a licensed therapist on a one-on-one basis to address personal issues and concerns. Through this process, individuals can gain insight into their thoughts, feelings, behaviors, and work towards making positive changes in their lives.

3.

Family
Therapy

Family therapy is a type of counseling that focuses on improving communication and resolving conflicts within a family unit. It can help families navigate difficult situations such as divorce, addiction, or mental health issues. Through sessions, families can learn to work together to create a healthier home environment.

4.

Emotional
Support Animal
Documentation

Emotional support animal documentation includes a letter from a licensed mental health professional, such as therapist, stating that the animal is part of the patient's treatment plan for a mental health condition. The letter should include the professional's contact information, the patient's diagnosis, and a statement that the animal provides emotional support and is necessary for the patient's mental health.

Therapy Sessions

My practice is dedicated to helping those who feel they have no where to turn or who have felt societal stigmas surrounding mental health. Finding a place where you can feel safe to be yourself without any judgement is the first step in discovering the path towards healing and empowerment.

I believe it is essential to meet the client where they are emotionally while guiding them, at their own pace, to where they want to be. I am dedicated to building a trusting therapeutic relationship with my clients and their families so that the client can feel safe and supported to explore, grow and heal.

In addition to counseling services, I offer supervision for social workers and mental health professionals. Clinical supervision is an essential component of social work practice.

It provides a space for reflection, support, and growth for social workers. Through clinical supervision, social workers can enhance their skills, knowledge, and self-awareness.

As a certfied clinical supervisor I can provide the supervision you need to not only grow as a social worker, but also provide the necessary hours to advance in the licensing process.

Please contact me for more information and with any questions.

  • Is everything we talk about in therapy confidential?
Confidentiality is essential to maintain trust and privacy between clients and therapists. However, there are certain limitations to confidentiality that we are ethically and legally obligated to adhere to. These include situations where there is a threat of harm to oneself or others, as well as any allegations of abuse, whether it be towards a child, elderly individual, or a vulnerable adult. In these specific cases, we are required to report the information to the relevant local authorities. In my practice, transparency is a priority and if any such issues should arise a conversation will take place with the client to keep them informed about steps that will be taken to ensure the safety and well being of everyone involved.
  • Do you take insurance? If not, how does that work?
Currently I am in network with several insurance companies and also work with many clients without in network insurance. If you have insurance within a network that I am a part of you will only be responsible for your copayment and/or deductible. Out of network plans require you to pay for sessions at the time of each session and get reimbursed from your insurance company, typically anywhere from 70-100%. It often amounts to the same or less than what a copayment would cost.
  • Are virtual sessions as effective as in-person sessions?
Yes, virtual sessions are just as effective as in-person sessions, in fact they offer the same level of care and support and offer greater accessibility, convenience, and flexibility for clients with busy schedules or limited mobility. I am committed to utilizing secure and HIPAA compliant technology to create a safe and confidential environment for virtual sessions, allowing clients to engage in therapy and treatment with ease and peace of mind from anywhere they choose.
  • What can I expect in my first session?
A first session is an opportunity for you to discuss your concerns, goals, and initial steps toward healing and growth. Together we will create a safe, non-judgmental space for you to openly share your thoughts and feelings. You can expect to discuss your mental health history, current challenges, and any symptoms you may be experiencing. This initial session is also a chance for you to ask any questions you may have about the counseling process and to learn about the various therapeutic techniques and approaches that may be utilized to support your journey towards healing.
  • How do I contact you?
The easiest way to reach me is via email at kjstherapy@gmail.com
  • What age groups do you work with? Are there any that you don't?
My expertise and more than 20 years of experience is working with teenagers and young adults. I do work with couples and adults facing challenges in relationships and life transitions as well. Unfortunately, I do not work with younger children. I believe that working with children is a very specialized type of therapy where different needs are required. I caution any parent looking for someone for their child to seek someone who truly specializes in the age group and the issues that their child is facing.
  • Is it normal to be nervous when starting therapy?
Yes, it is absolutely normal to feel nervous when beginning therapy. It is common for individuals to experience a range of emotions, including anxiety, apprehension, and uncertainty when starting therapy. This may stem from the fear of the unknown, concerns about being judged, or reluctance to open up to a new person about personal struggles. It is important to remember that seeking therapy is a courageous step towards improving your mental health and well-being. Over time, as you develop a comfortable and trusting relationship, many clients find that their initial nervousness dissipates, and they can truly benefit from the therapeutic process.
  • Can I contact you in between sessions?
I understand that emergencies may arise between scheduled sessions. I always encourage open communication with my clients and can offer support in between sessions or an extra session when necessary. You can contact me via email or phone to discuss any urgent issues that cannot wait until our next session. It is important to recognize that you will have significant feelings brought up when going through the therapeutic process and it is important for you to take that time in between sessions to work through them. I encourage all of my clients to begin with a therapy journal to write down anything that comes up so together we can process them when we meet at our next session. I am committed to providing ongoing support and assistance to help you manage your mental health needs when emergencies do arise.

Karin has always been a guiding light in my life; even moreso, an influence. Recently, she had supervised me during the time it took me to receive my clinical hours.

I am now an LCSW, and my practices, empathy, and professionalism are greatly attributed to Karin's teachings. I would not be as successful without the knowledge and compassion that Karin possesses and is able to share.
